Microform at the Marriott Library

The Marriott Library has an extensive collection (almost 400 titles) of Utah newspapers on microfilm.  Our collection also includes newspapers from Idaho, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, Montana and Wyoming.  For some of the major titles (Salt Lake Tribune, Deseret News, Idaho Statesman) there is overlap between our microfilm holdings and what is available through our online subscriptions.  Many of the Utah newspapers have been digitized as part of our ongoing Utah Digital Newspapers project.

Two useful tools (also on microfilm) for doing local newspaper research are available in the Microforms Reference Collection adjacent to the microform readers in the Knowledge Commons on Level 2:

1)  an annual index to the Salt Lake Tribune, covering the years 1941-1990 and part of 1991 (the paper original of this index is in Special Collections on Level 4, call number AN2 .U8 S334 index)

2)  a combined index to obituaries published in the Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune through the end of 1970
