Psychiatry Resources: Guidelines

What's Here

Guidelines are excellent resources to consult for recommendations on how to handle clinical situations. They are found in a variety of places, including:

  • American Psychiatric Association
  • National Guideline Clearinghouse

American Psychiatric Association

Many national organizations and societies produce guidelines for topics within that specialty.

In addition to the DSM 5, the American Psychiatric Association has several guidelines available on a variety of topics, including Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, HIV, eating disorders and more.

National Guideline Clearinghouse

National Guideline Clearinghouse, an initiative of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), provides a singular point for healthcare providers to access clinical guidelines. Guidelines are collected from a variety of sources and made easily accessible and searchable on this site.

Be sure to check out the Compare Guidelines feature to clearly see the differences and similarities between different recommendations on the same topic.
