What is EBP?

What is EBP?

Evidence Based Practice or EBP, combines:
  • Best Research Evidence,
  • Clinical Expertise, and
  • Patient Values and Preferences
"Evidence based medicine is the conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients. The practice of evidence based medicine means integrating individual clinical expertise with the best available external clinical evidence from systematic research."

Sackett, D., Rosenberg, W., Gray, J., Haynes, R., & Richardson, W. (1996). Evidence based medicine: What it is and what it isn't. BMJ : British Medical Journal (Clinical Research Edition), 312(7023), 71-72.

"Evidence based practice is the process of systematically finding, appraising, and using contemporaneous research findings as the basis for clinical decisions ... The evidence in the literature is integrated with the patient's unique situation and values and the clinician's experience and education to come to the best possible care decision."

McKibbon, A., & Wilczynski, N. (Eds.). (2009). PDQ Evidence-Based Principles and Practice (2nd Edition).
