Searching the Marriott Library Catalog for Media
From the Library Home Page, select "Advanced Search" under the search box. The Advanced Search page allows searches to be defined, narrowed and limited in various ways.

Searches on the advanced page can be used to limit results to Knowledge Commons, Computing and Media Services collections and titles. Searches can be done by typing keywords for the title, author, subject or any general term, etc.

If the menu is pulled down, there are other options. Searches can also be limited by keywords and then selecting a limit by "Publicaiton Data", "Material Type", or "Language" or a combination of those.

Narrowing the Search
Select "Title" from the first menu and type in "King Lear". Then select "Audio Visual" from the menu for "Material Type" and click on the orange SEARCH button.

Results will be the video and audio materials we have in the Knowledge Commons, Computing and Media Services Collections (NOTE the Video/Audio icons).

To the left of these results are facets which will further refine a search. The search for King Lear can be narrowed by searching LOCATION (Computing & Media Services or ARC, for example) or by COLLECTION (Video Cassette or DVD).

Narrowing by DVD, gives a list of DVDs that are about or performances of King Lear.

To see information about the title including a description of the contents, click on "Details".

To see information like the call number, if the title is checked out, when it is due, or to request it from the ARC if that is possible, click on "Locations & Requests"

Searching for Media by Topic / Format
To search for topics by format, use format terms like "videorecording" or "sound recording" in the ANY field and narrow the search by any other keywords or menu items. For example, type in "ANY / sound recording" and "ANY / fiddling" and "LANGUAGE / Norwegian"

The result is a listing for a Norwegian folk music record

Remember, clicking on "Location & Requests" shows the exact format and call number as you see above.
