Stock Exchanges
- NYSE EuroNext
The holding company that owns and operates a number of stock exchanges in the United States and Europe, NYSE Euronext was created by the merger of the NYSE Group and Euronext NV in 2007. NYSE Euronext acquired the American Stock Exchange in 2008.
- The Nasdaq Exchange
The National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations System. On the Nasdaq market, brokers buy and sell stocks through a computer network. The NASDAQ has more trading volume than any other electronic stock exchange in the world.
- World Stock Exchanges
features a list of world stock exchanges, securities commissions and other regulatory agencies, as well as stock market resources.
Financial Regulators
- Maryland Commissioner of Financial Regulation
Oversees Maryland financial institutions and investigates consumer complaints about financial institutions licensed in the state.
- Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation
Supervises state-chartered banks, credit unions, and trust companies. Search for licensed financial institutions.
- U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission
The primary overseer and regulator of the U.S. securities markets.
- Finanacial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA)
The largest independent regulator for all securities firms doing business in the U.S.
- U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
A new agency, the CFPB will supervise banks, credit unions, and financial companies, enforce Federal consumer financial laws, and educate consumers.
