Online Data Management Training Resources
There are many excellent data management training resources available for free online. Here are a few that we recommend:
- MANTRA Research Data Management TrainingMANTRA is a free online course designed for researchers or others who manage digital data as part of a research project. MANTRA was created by the University of Edinburgh Library.
- DataONEThe DataONE website includes education modules, webinars, and screencast tutorials on data management. The resources page also includes an investigators toolkit, a best practices primer for data management, and examples of Data Management Plans.
- RDMRoseRDMRose is a JISC funded project to produce continuing professional development (CPD) learning materials in Research Data Management (RDM) tailored for Information professionals. Includes several education modules on topics such as how to conduct as research data interview and how to create data management plans.
- ICPSR WebsiteThe ICPSR Data Management and Curation webpage is a fantastic resource to learn more about social science data management. Learn how to prepare data for archiving, create data management plans, and cite datasets.

Data Management Training at the University of Utah
Proper data management is a crucial research skill worth acquiring. You and your research team can learn more about managing your data effectively through our in-person trainings and online resources.
- Request a data management workshop for your research methods class/ research team/ college. We teach everything from short sessions on data organization (i.e. file naming, version control, and folder structures) to full data management workshops on data description, organization, data storage, writing a DMP, data ownership, and data sharing.
- We teach regularly scheduled data management classes for the Office of Undergraduate Research, the Marriott Library, and the Research Administration Training Series (RATS).
- Want to get your lab/department/college thinking about data management? We can bring our expertise to your next faculty meeting or brown bag.
