What You Will Learn


By the end of the semester, you will be able to:

  • Locate various services points in the Marriott Library and on the Library home page
  • Identify the characteristics of a scholarly resource (book, journal, or website)
  • Find both print and online resources using the library website
  • Understand how scholarly information is produced
  • Use several library resources (Usearch, Research Databases, online journals, etc.)
  • Implement various search strategies in locating information
  • Be able to ask for assistance from librarians and library staff
  • To better forage and evaluate information resources

Our goals as librarians for you are:

  • To read and understand the scholarly literature early on
  • To orient and familiarize yourselves with the Marriott  & Eccles Library
  • To be able to ask for assistance from librarians and library staff
  • To have a memorable experience

Library Assignments

Assignment 1: Library tour

Assignment 2: Encyclopedias & Handbooks, Usearch (Library Catalog),Google Scholar, & Scopus

Assignment 3: EBSCOhost & Library Services  

Assignment 4: Research Databases (Project Muse, Proquest, EBSCOhost, WorldCat, and Library of Congress (LOC)) & Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Assignment 5: Work in groups. Schedule appt. with librarian.
