Storage Options for Preservation and Sharing of Research Data

1. The Hive: The University Data Repository

The Hive is a University of Utah campus data repository for storing research datasets generated by faculty, student, and staff researchers at the University of Utah. The Hive accepts publicly available datasets up to 500 GB (if your dataset is larger just talk to us) in a wide variety of file formats. The Hive is free of charge and provides a variety of services including a structured metadata record for searching and finding data, data storage for a minimum of ten years in a trusted and secure environment, and consultation with experienced data librarians. The DOI for your submitted publication will not be provided until a README file has been submitted and approved. Contact data-management-services@lists.utah.edu for additional information.

2. Membership

The University Libraries pay membership to data repositories. This allows you to use the datasets deposited in these repositories and to deposit your datasets. To access these repositories go to http://www.lib.utah.edu/, select Databases, open the pull-down menu under Browse Database by Type, and scroll down to Research Data Repositories.

3. State of Utah Open Data Catalog

The U is partnering with the State so that any research pertaining to any aspect of the State may be submitted to the State of Utah Open Data Catalog. For assistance please contact jacob.reed@utah.edu

4. Non-University

For non-university subject-based data repositories see Repositories for Research Data
