Resources for Researchers: UU-funded Open Access Publishing

Library and other resources for researchers

University of Utah Read & Publish Agreements

The University of Utah Libraries have Read & Publish agreements in place with several journal publishers.  These agreements give UU corresponding authors the ability to publish open access articles in thousands of included journals and the associated Article Processing Charge (APC) will be covered by University funds.

Find journals covered under our UU agreements that waive the APC or provide a discount.

Who is Eligible?

University of Utah faculty, staff, and students who fulfill the corresponding author role on a manuscript submitted to a journal included in one of the University’s agreements.

What do Authors Need to Do

  • Identify a target journal for your submission and verify that the journal is covered by the Libraries’ OA publishing agreement.  Contact the Library for assistance or confirmation that your target journal and manuscript type are included.
  • Once you’ve selected the journal, you don’t have to do anything different at the submission stage – just follow the publisher’s process as normal.
  • If/when your manuscript is accepted for publication, you’ll receive an email invitation to register for access to the publisher’s “author portal”.  This portal is where you address issues like reviewing/editing the proof.  This is also where you identify how you’ll be paying the APC.
  • The corresponding author must have a UU  institutional affiliation  for the author portal to present an option for you to use UU funds to cover the APC.

Key Points to Know:

APCs for accepted manuscripts are eligible to be paid by UU funds in many of the  journals distributed by publishers with whom we have Read and Publish agreements. The corresponding author must select “University of Utah” as their institutional affiliation in order to associate the accepted manuscript with UU’s publisher agreement.
