L2 Historical Voter Data

Information about the L2 Political voter data and steps for accessing it at the University of Utah.

Overview

L2 processes registered voter data on an ongoing basis for all fifty states and the District of Columbia with refreshes of the underlying state voter data typically occurring at least every six months and refreshes of telephone numbers and National Change of Address processing occurring approximately every 30 to 60 days. Those data are standardized and enhanced with proprietary commercial data and modeling codes to form separate enhanced state files. Each version of those data is archived by L2 along with the underlying raw data received from each state in order to maintain a historical record of developments. Such files exist in L2’s files in developed form for developments starting as early as 2014 through the present the exact dates varying by state. The University of Utah provides access to the L2 Historical List, which includes these historical (i.e., non-current) developed voter files and the raw state voter data through 2023.

Data are available only to University of Utah researchers (e.g., faculty, staff, graduate students, and some undergraduates) upon request and with IRB approval. Please refer to the Accessing the Data tab for more information.
