Building Awareness of Sex and Gender Differences Research

In January 2013 the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library, in collaboration with six University of Utah partners, received a subcontract from the Office of Research on Women's Health (ORWH) and the National Library of Medicine (NLM) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to highlight and extend the wealth of resources available from the NIH and its institutes and centers on sex and gender differences research. The project developed learning materials and created strong collaborations and connections with departments and organizations across the health sciences to disseminate the high-quality information available on sex and gender differences to researchers, students and clinicians.

The S&GDR project accomplished a number of goals during 2013. These accomplishments included the following:

  • creation, execution and dissemination of an innovative social media promotional plan to raise awareness of sex and gender differences research on the health sciences campus
  • creation of sex and gender differences research training materials based on existing materials from NIH, ORWH, and others
  • creation and dissemination of local researcher videos
  • creation and dissemination of a Research Guide
  • ten presentations to various health sciences departments and campus groups
