Honors Think Tank On Transparency & Privacy in a Web 2.0 World: Possible Projects

Potential Student Projects

  • Design an "education kit" of information that can be used by civics organizations or teachers throughout the state to educate persons about transparency and privacy issues.
  • Design a series of "info graphics" or "visualizations" for educational purposes which illustrate the key concepts of transparency and privacy.
  • Create a series of short cartoon "movies" illustrating the pitfalls and dangers of privacy for junior or high school students.
  • Write and publish a scholarly paper on selected transparency/privacy topics.
  • Draft proposed state legislation addressing selected transparency/privacy issues.
  • Draft proposed best practices on selected transparency/privacy issues.
  • Develop an educational exercise/activity on Scratch (or other program) that high school or junior high school students could use to study and understand the competing concepts of transparency and privacy.
  • Plan and host a conference on a selected transparency/privacy topic.
  • Produce an educational video(s) podcast(s) webinar(s) on one or more selected transparency/privacy topics.
  • Draft a Wikipedia(s) entry(ies) on selected transparency/privacy topics.
  • Create a Wiki or blog on selected transparency/privacy topics that will continue to exist and operate after the class year. Produce a documentary about the class or a selected transparency/privacy topic
  • Design a video game or create a transparency/privacy Information Center on Second Life or some other virtual world.
  • Solicit and establish an out-of-state internship program with government, NGO’s and corporations for University students in the privacy/transparency areas.
  • Organize one of more “flash mobs” raising the public’s awareness of current threats to personal privacy.
  • Design an “app” for mobile phones, notebooks or other mobile devices.that address transparency/privacy.


THESE ARE ONLY SUGGESTIONS. BE CREATIVE AND CHOOSE SOMETHING THAT WILL BE FUN AND HAVE A LONG TERM IMPACT.
