Guide to Organizing Digital Files

Donating Oral Histories

We welcome contributions of digital or digitized oral histories. If you are submitting or plan to submit oral histories as part of your donation, we recommend the Best Practices for Conducting Oral Histories from the Oral History Association (OHA) as a guide for conducting interviews. Note that the OHA Statement on Ethics recommends that the interviewee have a specified amount of time to review the interview and make changes to it.

Special Collections also requests a waiver/release of rights signed by both the interviewee and interviewer. There is a sample waiver below. If you do not have this or a similar document in your collection, we recommend that you contact the interviewee for a signature (please note that the waiver allows us to publish the oral histories in the Marriott Library Digital Library. If the interviewee requests that we do not do so, please note this on the waiver).

Please also ensure that both transcription and audio/video files are clearly labeled with the name of the interviewee and the date to ensure that users can locate both of the items.
