MAXQDA 2022 and 2024

To share your project with another person or a group, you can save your main project file, which has the ending .mx22 or.mx24 depending on what version of the software you are using. by emailing or using a flash drive. However, if you have external files (audio, video, and sometimes PDF files that are too big to be stored in the main project, you will need bundle your external files in a SIP file. To do this, you can go to Home>External Files>Bundle External Files.

MAXQDA then compresses all external files associated with the current project into a Zip archive, which is named after your project (e.g. “Projectname.mx24.zip”) and saved in the same place as your project file. Make sure you send the zip file to the person you are sharing your project with as well. That person can copy the project file and external bundle zip file to a local folder. Then, they can click on the External Files option and unpack the file For more information about sharing projects, check out the following section from the MAXQDA 2024 manual. 

There are a few different ways to work on a project with a team. One option is for one person to do their coding and then copy the project file and external files and send them to the next person, who can save a local copy of the project and then work on it. You can also click on the Teamwork button and choose Export Data. Then, you can choose to share just specific parts of the project. The person who received the information will click on the Teamwork button and then choose Import Data.

Merging projects. It is also possible to merge projects two at a time. Start by opening one of the projects you would like to merge. Then, click on Home>Merge Projects and select the other project that you would like to merge. A dialogue window will open asking what materials should be kept. You can choose what to overwrite; if you don’t change the pre-settings, the materials in the first project will be kept as the default.
