Industry (or trade) associations are a valuable source of information. The industry-specific data and reports associations publish may require membership or subscription fee to view in full, although sometimes they are free. Simply google with keywords followed by "association."

  Some data are member-only, while others are freely available.
• National Sporting Goods Association -- Research
  Lots of free data on sports participation and expenditure. Main data supplier for SBRnet.
• Statistical Abstract of the United States
  A compilation of data sets from multiple sources, covering a wide variety of topics from population to industry, from health to education, and more.
• Consumer Expenditure Survey
  Information on the buying habits of American consumers, including data on their expenditures, income, and consumer unit (families and single consumers) characteristics. The survey data are collected for the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
• American Time Use Survey
  Measures the amount of time people spend doing various activities, such as paid work, childcare, volunteering, and socializing. Collected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
• Economic Data from Census  
  Data from the Economic Census and various business-related surveys, including Economic Census, Current Industrial Reports, Annual Survey of Manufacturers, Service Annual Survey, Statistics of U.S. Businesses, E-Commerce, Small Business, Minority/Women Business Owners, and more.
