Civil and environmental engineering can be divided into the focus areas of:

  • structural
  • geotechnical
  • transportation
  • water resources
  • environmental
  • project management 

 

Engineers in this profession are responsible for the the planning, design, construction, and operation of facilities such as buildings, bridges, water systems, transit systems, etc. The management of the environment as it relates to these facilities is also addressed. A knowledge of the basic subject areas of mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, and computer science are necessary to solve the problems in civil and environmental engineering.
