What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is the name for a widespread disease first identified in 2019. The name is a contraction: COrona VIrus Disease 2019 = COVID-19.

COVID-19 is also often referred to as "Coronavirus" or "Novel coronavirus."

The virus which causes COVID-19 is SARS-CoV-2.
