- Embase This link opens in a new windowEmbase - another crucial resource for discovering biomedical evidence within published, peer-reviewed literature, in-press publications and conference abstracts. Full-text indexing of drug, disease and medical device data - supported by Emtree - helps retrieve precise answers to search queries. Coverage is 1947 to present.
- SciFinder This link opens in a new windowNOTE: You must register for a user account to use this database - note that for registration you must use your University of Utah email.
This database is licensed for use only by U of U faculty, students and staff conducting scholarly research. It is not to be used for commercial research. SciFinder provides access to the substance information and chemical literature in CAS (Chemical Abstracts Service) databases. Currently the database includes over 16 million journal articles, patents and other documents and more than 24 million substance records in the CAS Chemical Registry database. Please contact CAS at 1-800-753-4227 or Shane Wallace email shane.wallace@utah.edu with any questions regarding registration or access. - Biological Sciences Collection This link opens in a new windowThis listing provides access to a large number of database which comprise the Biological Sciences Collection from ProQuest. The collection covers biochemistry, genetics, and virology, as well as a number of other topics. Citations from thousands of journals and conferences are provided.

- Synthesis Collection This link opens in a new windowThis listing provides access to the Synthesis and Colloquium collections, which are interdisciplinary teaching and learning products covering new and emerging fields in the life sciences. The basic component of the collections is a 50 to 100-page "lecture" (a self-contained electronic book that synthesizes a research or development topic). Each lecture includes pictures, tables, and linked references to other peer reviewed articles and books. The collections and their lectures are organized b…
What is biomedical engineering literature?
Biomedical Engineering is the "integration of engineering, biology, and medicine to detect and treat human disease and disability." Due to this multidisciplinary approach, it's essential to investigate all of these perspectives.
As you prepare your thesis or another research project, consider your audiences: biomedical engineers, biomedical professionals, biologists, and engineers. What about your research will excite a biologist? What future impacts will your research have on engineers? By considering your audiences, your thesis and/or research project will have greater impact.
Below are a few selected library databases to get you started.
