Microsoft Word has firmly established itself as the most popular word processing application and is currently used by millions of people every day across the world. MS Word continues to grow in terms of functionality, features, and is heavily supported on the Microsoft main web site with templates, tutorials, and additional options for users. MS Word can be used to create letters, brochures, business cards, catalogs, books, and by using available templates almost any other type of publication.
This guide will help users become familiar with the MS Word interface and how to use the various basic features of the program. Sections will include how to use the new Quick Access features, the Office Button, understanding the different types of Ribbons, using the various document views, image editing features, and more. There will also be exercises that will help users to locate and find various features, tools, and commands.
Changes From 2003 to 2007 Versions
Once again, there are major changes in MS Word 2013 compared to previous versions of Word. The first thing that you notice is the obvious brightness of the workspace and Ribbons, plus the "minimalist" approach with the Ribbons as compared to the last few versions. Some of the changes include:
- The Office Button has been removed and has been replaced by the File tab. Under the File tab, there is a new look at opening new and recent documents, save features, and more.
- The Ribbons have been expanded and several features on the Ribbons have been moved and/or changed for better efficiency.
- PDF files can now be opened and edited in Word, then saved as either a PDF or Word file.
- There have been several improvements in how multimedia is inserted into Word. Video and web images can now be directly inserted into Word and the alignment tools have been enhanced to allow for better placement and text wrapping.
- Read Mode removes all of the Ribbons to provide a simple, distraction free view of the document that you are working on.
