Salt Lake Architecture Bibliography: Obtaining Building Plans

University of Utah Buildings

In order to request plans for University of Utah buildings, send an email to FM GIS (gis@fm.utah.edu). In the email please include the following information:

  • The building you are researching
  • What type of plans you would like to look at ( floor plans, elevations, architectural, structural, etc.)
  • What you intend to do with the plans

The more detailed information provided, the better they can help. Requests will be handled on a case by case basis.

Listed below are some of the options for obtaining plans, architectural drawings and other site-specific information:

Salt Lake County Archives saves building permits, images, plat maps, and tax information on property within the county.

Utah Division of State History Research Center has a library collection of a small number of architectural drawings which may not be listed in their online library catalog, they can be contacted at 801-245-7227 or by email at historyresearch@utah.gov.

The Utah Division of Archives and Records maintains a list of site/building research sources.

Historic Preservation Office, which includes an architectural historian (Cory Jensen (801) 245-7242 or coryjensen@utah.gov ) and a historic architect (Donald Hartley (801) 245- 7240 or dhartley@utah.gov).
