The final project for this course is the creation of an online history exhibit for a general audience that teaches how to interpret Hawaiian history building on the frameworks and perspectives engaged in this course.
Step 1: Create an account in Wix
Step 2: Create a blueprint for your website (not in Wix, on a piece of paper or Word Doc)
Step 3: Organize your images by page in a folder structure and keep a document of item metadata (again, outside of Wix)
Step 4: Go to Wix and select a Template - Keep it simple. These websites do not need to be fancy, so I recommend going to "Blank Template" > "Minimal Layout." Click "Edit".
Step 5: Save your website and create URL
Step 6: Familiarize yourself with the navigation and options in Wix.
Step 7: Order your pages in a menu - go to "Site Menu" and Create/Rename Pages.
Step 8: Add backgrounds to your pages
Step 9: Upload content and make sure every image is cited properly. Get creative! Add galleries, video, slideshows, etc. Use a lorem ipsum generator to hold space for written content.
Step 10: Your written content is the last thing you add! Write narrative using "writing for the web" principles
WARNING - Once you select a theme in Wix, you cannot change it without losing your content!
