Research Skills for Developing Writers: Lesson 4

An introductory guide to help multilingual undergraduate writers at the U develop their research skills.

Lesson 4 Objectives: Using the Marriott Library Catalog

The purpose of this module is to teach you the basic skills to navigate the Marriott Library (MLIB) catalog.  The catalog is your first resource for finding periodicals, books, and other media for your research.  Since the language used in the catalog can be very specific, this module will also help you develop your research vocabulary.

Students will be able to...

…search the library catalog to find books and periodicals  in the MLIB by using the advanced search function on the MLIB website.

…classify the terms title, author, and subject as they are used to search for terms in the catalog.

…define the terms call number, status, and location as they apply to finding sources in the MLIB catalog.
