Music: Beginning Your Research
Music Research Portal
Introduction to this Phase
- The New Grove Dictionary of Music (part of Oxford Music Online) is the place to start any music research. Although it is called a dictionary, it is more like an encyclopedia and features articles not only on individual composers, but also musical terms and concepts.
- If you are researching a particular composer, the article will include a list of works and editions.
- Every article also includes a bibliography that could be a place for you to start as you delve deeper into the topic.
